wont change over to lpg

i have a vw sharon 2l when lpg is selected , u can hear it click over and the car jolts and changes straight back to petrol and the empty tank alarm comes on, i tried over filling tank and managed to squeeze and extra half litre in and it ran fine for 2 or 3 miles and changed straight back , it only runs if i over preasureize the tank,and if i take off faulty part to fix ,will the gas leak out , and yes i am able thank you
any ideas please
